Paradox of success: intersectional inequalities and habitus clivé of Asian women in elite Western academia

In a new article in the British Journal of Sociology of Education, Lizhou Wang examines the experiences of Asian female students pursuing degrees at elite Western universities. Drawing on intersectionality and Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of habitus clivé, Wang explores how transnational educational mobility can simultaneously offer opportunities for social advancement while generating internal tensions, identity conflicts, and the hidden costs of academic success.
