Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is now under a criminal investigation by the Justice Department. President Trump has clashed with the Fed Chair over interest rates. … “When the central bank changes interest rates, there’s a tradeoff: boost the economy today but at a cost tomorrow, in terms of inflation that erodes people’s wealth and people’s incomes,” says Gary Richardson, UC Irvine professor of economics and former official historian of the Federal Reserve.
