As diesel prices hit record highs, the impact is being felt far beyond the gas pump. Orange County reporter Bianca Buono explains why experts say higher fuel costs could affect nearly everything we buy. Diesel prices are reaching record highs nationwide and drivers are feeling the pain. ... Gary Richardson, a professor of economics at UC Irvine, previously worked as the historian of the Federal Reserve System. He says much of the economy runs on diesel: “Almost everything you buy is going to be more expensive. The worry is that these increases in fuel prices become sort of permanent – that they affect the way we think as well as the prices we pay.”
