UC Irvine associate professor Robert Uriu believes Trump’s primary aim was at the Japanese auto industry which has already started to pass on tariff costs to consumers. He says it’s only a matter of time for small businesses to do the same. “It just depends on how much they imported at the old normal price and how quickly it’s going to run out.”
