Keramet Reiter, UCI law professor and the faculty director of UCI’s LIFTED program and Jennifer Gomez, UCI graduate student in the Masters of Advanced Studies in Criminology, Law and Society program and UCI LIFTED’s program officer write, “Despite our combined four decades of experience working with incarcerated students, our work running UC Irvine’s LIFTED (Leveraging Inspiring Futures Through Educational Degrees) at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility keeps surprising us. … As our first cohort of 23 students earns bachelor’s degrees in sociology this month — with more than one-third earning Latin Honors — several lessons stand out.”
