Last month, Jumpstart celebrated its 10th anniversary of Read for the Record with a shared nationwide reading experience of Not Norman: A Goldfish Story, written by Kelly Bennett. Jumpstart’s local Santa Ana Unified School District participants got a special treat when they gathered for their reading at the Heritage Museum of Orange County. Dr. David Haglund, Deputy Superintendent for Educational Services read to the preschoolers while the book’s artist, Noah Jones, illustrated the story in person. About Jumpstart:
Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students and community Corps members to serve preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. The organization’s proven curriculum helps children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for kindergarten, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late. UCI’s Jumpstart Chapter services nearly 300 low-income preschool students in the Santa Ana area. Learn more and get involved by visiting www.jstart.org/.
