From the Daily Bulletin:
A 2010 article about Lopez v. Seccombe in Cal State San Bernardino’s “History in the
Making” publication written by Mark Ocegueda quoted an article Lopez wrote on the
treatment of Latinos in San Bernardino that set into motion the filing of the pivotal
lawsuit: “Last Tuesday afternoon Reverend J.R. Nunez and three of the Mexican children
of his parish were refused admission to the San Bernardino Municipal Plunge because
they were Mexicans. They were refused the use of a swimming pool which displays a
bronze plaque that said ‘no one is to be refused admittance because of race or color.’”
