The School of Social Sciences’ Global Connect program will close out its tenth successful year on June 1 with its annual high school symposium, “The Global Mosaic.” Student-designed videos - including the video at right from Estancia High School - and essays featuring creative solutions to international problems will be viewed and on display as more than 250 students from Costa Mesa, Estancia, El Toro, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo and Newport Harbor high schools come to campus for the daylong event. Featured speakers include Rajiv Chandrasekaran, Washington Post editor, foreign correspondent and author and Mark Petracca, UCI political science associate professor and social sciences associate dean. The day's agenda also includes a performance by the UCI Jodaiko Drummers and an awards ceremony for outstanding global educators and top global projects. UCI faculty, students, staff, alumni and community friends are invited to attend all sessions to learn more about Global Connect’s global impact.

About Global Connect:
Global Connect is an international studies curriculum program which aims to provide high school students with a better understanding of how global issues impact their lives. Designed and led by an interdisciplinary team of UCI faculty, graduate and undergraduate students representing the social sciences disciplines, the curriculum is currently being taught at Costa Mesa, Estancia, El Toro, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo and Newport Harbor high schools as well as Te Winkle Middle School. Created in 2001, the curriculum is offered in both Spanish and English and its materials are fully available online for download and public use. The Global Connect curriculum is UCI’s first program to become an established core academic course within California's schools.
