On May 23, Susan Mai Easterbrook Cole, great-granddaughter of General Joseph W. Stilwell, delivered remarks at the 2026 Overseas Young Chinese Forum (OYCF) Annual Meeting, co-hosted by the Long U.S.-China Institute in Southern California. In a speech titled "The Stilwell Legacy: Friendship, Respect, and the Enduring Power of Exchange," Cole reflected on her family's five-generation connection with China and on General Stilwell's enduring belief in mutual understanding, service, and cooperation across cultures. Drawing on family memories, historical writings, and recent visits to China, she highlighted the importance of preserving people-to-people ties during a period of heightened geopolitical tension.
