Ming-Chih Huang ’26 business economics is the recipient of a Social Sciences Education Enhancement Scholarship which helped cover spring textbooks in his final quarter at UCI. Below, the soon-to-be graduate from Taiwan reflects on his UCI experience and plans post-grad.
Q: What made you decide to pursue business economics, and specifically at UCI? What interests you most about your work?
A: I chose to study business economics since I wanted to explore the connection between economic theory and actual business decision-making. I opted for UCI due to its excellent academic atmosphere and a supportive community. The most exciting thing about studying here is gaining analytical skills that help understand markets, individuals, and institutions better.
Q: What would you consider your biggest accomplishment at UCI?
A: One of my achievements at UCI has been adjusting to an entirely new atmosphere in terms of both education and culture while still growing as a student. Getting the Educational Enhancement Scholarship Award and also the J. Yang & Family Foundation Scholarship means a lot to me personally and keeps me going toward my dreams.
Q: Who at UCI has played an important mentorship role in your undergraduate experience?
A: A meaningful mentorship role at UCI has come from economics professor Franco, who has encouraged me to keep improving and stay confident in my academic path. Her guidance has helped me adjust to university life and think more clearly about my future goals.
Q: What challenges or hurdles have you faced in getting to where you are today?
A: Being a Taiwanese immigrant attending university in UCI is perhaps one of the most defining experiences that have contributed significantly to my current development. Although the transition process was not easy, I was able to develop skills such as independence and adaptability.
Q: Where can you most often be found on campus?
A: Gateway Studying Center
Q: When do you plan to finish your degree and what are your plans thereafter?
A: My goal is to graduate in June 2026. Upon graduating, I intend to seek employment in a business-related field such as finance or data analysis so that I may keep on learning from experience.
Q: What’s your best memory from your undergraduate experience at UCI?
A: One of the best things about being at UC Irvine is getting to meet people of all kinds and make friends along the way. This has helped make my college experience truly fulfilling and worthwhile.
