Orange County faces a population exodus. Its housing market couldn't care less.

A recent poll put out by the University of California, Irvine found that while more than four out of five respondents appreciated the quality of life that comes with Orange County, most people questioned their ability to financially remain in the region long-term. The poll cited 51% of total respondents as “potential leavers,” …. Of those “potential leavers,” a staggering 78% said the cost of housing was a “very important” consideration for whether or not they would move; the overall cost of living came in second (barely) at 76%. … “You wonder: How can a young person make a go of it here,” says Jan Brueckner, professor of economics at UC Irvine.
