This week I talked to Danielle Thomsen of UC Irvine, about her new Chicago book, The Money Signal. She finds that candidates are raising money earlier and in larger amounts than ever. And everything from candidate entrance to working your way up the leadership ladder in Congress are now governed by money, even though most of the value is in signaling rather than actually communicating with voters.
