In its annual celebration of Dynamic Womxn of UCI, the Womxn’s Hub has named four Anteaters from social sciences among its 2023 awardees. Learn more about the honors and our social sciences recipients below, and congrats to all honorees celebrated.
ALLY AWARD
Davin Phoenix, Associate Professor, Political Science
The Ally Award honors individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to creating a space to advance womxn in higher education by breaking down barriers for advancing womxn’s voice, role and presence at different levels of the UCI campus. Examples can include BIWOC study spaces, scholarships for grad students, professional development/training/mentorship for the advancement of womxn, and more.
OUTSTANDING SOCIAL JUSTICE ACTIVIST AWARD
Kristin Turney, Dean’s Professor, Sociology
Kayla Atkinson, Senior, Psychology and Sociology
The Outstanding Social Justice Activist Award honors individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to working on anti-sexist endeavors and who have drawn connections between various communities to end multiple forms of oppression including but not limited to ableism, heterosexism, racism, classism, xenophobia, and ageism.
DYNAMIC WOMXN OF THE YEAR
Laura Enriquez, Associate Professor, Chicano/Latino Studies
The Dynamic Womxn of the Year Award honors individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to the personal growth and success of womxn, through education, research, public or volunteer service, above and beyond their expected responsibilities. This award recognizes an individual's significant contribution to the UCI community that may often go unnoticed.
