As the co-founder and director of the non-profit Tiyya Foundation, Meymuna Hussein-Cattan, ’09 UCI social sciences alumna and Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation partner, provides critical resources and support to help refugees and immigrants successfully transition to life in the U.S. In 2020, she opened Flavors From Afar in Los Angeles, a restaurant with a rotating monthly menu featuring carefully curated international cuisine from the homeland of a refugee or immigrant chef.
