Meymuna Hussein-Cattan

As the co-founder and director of the non-profit Tiyya Foundation, Meymuna Hussein-Cattan, ’09 UCI social sciences alumna and Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation partner, provides critical resources and support to help refugees and immigrants successfully transition to life in the U.S. In 2020, she opened Flavors From Afar in Los Angeles, a restaurant with a rotating monthly menu featuring carefully curated international cuisine from the homeland of a refugee or immigrant chef. This year, she’s been nominated as a Top 10 CNN Hero for her incredible work changing lives and enriching the greater Los Angeles community with shared cultures and experiences. Help us elevate Hussein-Cattan to become THE top CNN Hero of the Year - an honor that carries a $100,000 prize -  by voting through Tuesday, Dec. 6.
