California Gov. Gavin Newsom called for Los Angeles City Council members Kevin de León and Gil Cedillo to resign, as city council president Nury Martinez did after an audio recording of a conversation among the three council members was leaked. On the recording, they made racist remarks about their constituents and colleagues, including comments about Oaxacans, Indigenous people from Southern Mexico who make up a large part of Los Angeles's immigrant community.
