UCI student creates first-of-its-kind scholarship program for refugees

A first-of-its kind scholarship program for UC students who are asylum seekers or have refugee or asylum status kicks off with some $100,000 in its kitty – thanks in large part to one UC Irvine student. Iman Siddiqi, 20, a political science and global Middle East studies major, organized a fundraiser earlier this month to establish what is being billed as the first student-led scholarship program of its kind in the country.
