Jan Brueckner, a professor of economics at UC Irvine, said demand-based pricing –
also known as “flexible” or “dynamic” pricing – has been getting more sophisticated
as technology has improved. “It’s happening more,” he said. Yet, he added, “it’s just
plain old supply and demand.”
