From the American Historical Association:
Unlike graduate school, where an adviser’s influence can be sustained throughout a
career, bonds between faculty and undergraduates are usually more fleeting, but perhaps
they are equally rewarding. Encouraging undergraduates as they find their way renews
my hope for the future. … An assistant professor with boundless energy, Anita Casavantes
Bradford has secured funding to launch a campus-wide first-generation faculty program
in which colleagues, the first in their families to graduate from college, will serve
as resources for first-generation undergraduates. She also serves as the faculty adviser
for DREAMS@UCI, an organization that represents undocumented students. …[Vicki Ruiz
is a history professor at UC Irvine.]
