While economists and politicians debate the merits of hiking the minimum wage – conservatives
say raising pay kills jobs, while liberals argue that it bolsters living standards
and boosts spending, thus helping businesses – members of the public across the political
spectrum favor a higher minimum… Supporting the opposing view, a comprehensive two-decade
literature review by a University of California, Irvine economist and a member of
the Federal Reserve Board, published in 2007, showed that a hike in the minimum wage
hurt the job chances of low-wage workers.
