City leaders are in love with density but most city dwellers disagree

When University of California, Irvine’s Jan Brueckner and Ann Largey conducted 15,000
interviews across the country, they found that for every 10 percent drop in population
density, the likelihood of people talking to their neighbors once a week goes up 10
percent, regardless of race, income, education, marital status, or age.
