From The Republic / AZ Central:
The aftershocks of last week’s Boston Marathon bombing and manhunts are being felt
on Capitol Hill, with partisans on both sides using the attack to make points about
immigration reform and gun control…. Louis DeSipio, a professor of political science
and Chicano/Latino studies at the University of California, Irvine, said: “My reading
is that it’s being used tactically to reinforce the positions that people already
had. I don’t think what’s happened in Boston has really changed anybody’s opinion.
... Because ... until we know more, we really can’t make any judgments about how this
reflects broadly on immigration or broadly on access to firearms. Both sides can find
evidence to support their position.”
