From the Daily News:
Chief Justice John Roberts stunned the political world last week by voting with the
liberal minority on the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold both President Obama's landmark
health care law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and the provision
that many conservatives declared intolerable: the individual mandate. The Roberts
vote was a major victory for President Obama. It certified that the president's signature
domestic achievement is, in fact, constitutional, with the stamp of approval coming
from the Chief Justice, who usually sides with the other hard-core conservatives on
the Court -- Antonin Scalia, Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas. About the author: Kevin
O'Leary is a political scientist at the Center for the Study of Democracy at UC Irvine.
