About the event:
Of Color and Ink: Chang Dai-chien After 1949 is an award-winning documentary tracing the extraordinary life and global artistic journey of Chang Dai-chien (张大千, 1899–1983), one of the most influential Chinese artists of the twentieth century. Twelve years in the making, the film follows Chang’s life after he left mainland China in 1949 and his journeys across Asia, South America, Europe, and the United States. Through rare archival materials and interviews, it explores how migration, cross-cultural encounters, and life abroad shaped his artistic development and enduring legacy.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between the film’s director, Weimin Zhang, and Tianlong Jiao, chief curator of the Bowers Museum.
Light refreshments will be provided.
