Macías is author of the book Mexican American Mojo: Popular Music, Dance, and Urban Culture in Los Angeles. He has also published articles in Aztlán: A Journal of Chicano Studies; Kalfou: A Journal of Comparative and Relational Ethnic Studies; The Journal of African American History; American Quarterly; Film & History; and Americana: The Journal of American Popular Culture. In addition to working with museums and universities on public exhibitions, he has also collaborated with curators, artists, and choreographers on public presentations
