Refugee Reproductive Health Literacy: Designing and Evaluating a Cervical Cancer Literacy Intervention for Afghan Refugee Women
-----
Healthy People 2030 defines health literacy as “ability to find, understand, and use information and services to inform health-related decisions and actions for themselves and others.” UCI’s Refugee Reproductive Health Network (ReproNet) developed and evaluated a reproductive health literacy training (RHLT) for Arab, Dari, and Pashto-speaking refugees, that focused on cervical cancer prevention, family planning, and maternal health. Pre-/post assessments showed significant improvements in RH knowledge, RH literacy, and general health literacy. We will present the design of a follow-up study to evaluate the impact of the RHLT on cervical cancer screening and HPV-vaccination rates in the Afghan population in Sacramento clinics.
