Conversations on the Environment and Interfacing Knowledges
-----
Within global environmental governance platforms such as the Convention to Combat Desertification, there has been exciting momentum around commitments to bring together the dominant science with other knowledge systems. This is a dynamic that is important to better understand from a justice perspective as global bodies deliberate a range of solutions that can favor one way of knowing over another. This presentation will explore some of the ways that current commitments to knowledge pluralism are emerging within the Rio Conventions, as well as the strengths and limitations of frameworks that can be used to understand knowledge justice within these texts. Martinez will pose links and important questions that need to be investigated in the intersection of knowledge pluralism in environmental governance and peace, and why this is a relationship to prioritize in the context of the climate crisis.
