This talk discusses the alarming global trend of rising antidemocracy and far-right governance on the one hand, and declining regulations protecting the environment on the other. Darian-Smith calls this a “deadly global alliance” because it threatens humanity and the ecological non-human systems on which all peoples depend. Drawing on examples from around the world, including the second Trump administration, she argues that recognizing this global trend is a crucial step in demanding increased environmental protections from our political and economic leaders and defending our collective futures.
