How do rising powers such as India view changes in the world order? How is rising India’s statecraft and international strategies evolving to manage its regional and global constraints and opportunities amidst ongoing geopolitical developments? The role and actions of India as a rising power are important as the new world order is defined and constructed through multipolarity and a variety of alliances across democratic nations such as India, Japan, US, Australia, and Korea. This talk outlines India’s statecraft goals and ambitions while offering a more global account of changes in the world order. Understanding India’s statecraft is key to identifying the nature of an emerging world order; India is not a mere arena or footnote to great power competition but its views, actions and strategies allow us to visualize a global international relations. Analyzing India’s statecraft also needs to be viewed in a domestic—democratic—context, wherein global strategies factor in its domestic political goals and concerns. International relations needs to analyze India in a more substantive way and without a Euro-centric bias, and India’s actions must be understood in a “India in the World framework” as changes in global realignments and a conflict ridden world order are affecting India’s global, regional and domestic actions.
