Frances Contreras, dean and professor in the UCI School of Education, will present on her work to advance research and practices across UC to enhance academic and social supports for first generation and underrepresented students. This work draws on her research agenda as well as engagement with promising UC intervention programs designed to create more seamless pathways to the University of California and support student academic success, retention, degree completion and post graduate options.

As a first-generation college student and Professor, Contreras is the first Chicana/Latina dean to lead a School of Education in the UC System. Previously, Contreras was an associate vice chancellor for equity, diversity and inclusion and a professor in the Department of Education Studies at UC San Diego.
