Join School of Social Sciences dean Bill Maurer, Chicano/Latino studies and history associate professor and UCI Veteran Studies Certificate Program director Anita Casavantes Bradford, and special guests for an engaging discussion on how veterans’ multifaceted transition from military to civilian life impacts their access to housing. Learn about Orange County and LA County efforts to house veterans, and take a virtual tour of the new West LA VA Veterans Community site.

Speakers include:

  • Dani Molina, Director of the UCI Veteran Services Center and a U.S. Army veteran. 
  • Mariana Grohowski is the founder and editor of the Journal of Veterans Studies and is a lecturer in UC Irvine’s Veterans Studies Certificate Program.
  • Richard Owens is a Senior Program Manager with Jamboree Housing.  He has served 18 years in the military (US Marine Corps and Army Reserves) and has worked for the past six years with  unhoused veterans.
  • Brian Ulaszewski is Executive Director Principal at City Fabrick, a Long Beach-based non-profit multi-disciplinary design studio engaged in reshaping underserved communities through public-interest design, planning, policy development and advocacy. He has played a leading role in the development of the new West LA VA Veterans Community, which will provide supportive housing to veterans and family members struggling with or at risk of homelessness.
