About the speaker: Wendy Pearlman is the Koldkyke Outstanding Teaching Associate Professor of Political Science at Northwestern University, where she specializes in Middle East politics. She is the author of four books, most recently, We Crossed a Bridge and It Trembled: Voices from Syria (Harper Collins, 2017), as well as dozens of articles, essays and book chapters. Wendy has conducted research in Spain, Germany, Lebanon, Jordon, Turkey, Israel, and the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

About the talk: In this talk, Pearlman will present her new book, We Crossed a Bridge and It Trembled: Voices from Syria, a collection of testimonials that she has collected from more than 400 displaced Syrians across the Middle East, Europe, and the United States since 2012. Called “essential reading” by the New York Times, the book is a mosaic of stories and reflections that express the human dimension of the Syrian uprising, war, and refugee experience.
