This talk explores how the aging of populations began to be projected as a universal, global ‘problem’ and draws from Professor Sivaramakrishnan’s new book “As the World Ages: The Making of a Demographic Crisis.” Professor Sivaramakrishnan aims to explore how influential experts, and science and policy interacted and intervened to produce specific features about aging and dependent populations, how they ‘emerged’ and were ‘uncovered’ and have been transformed over the past decades. Her focus in this talk will be on ideas and articulations, responses by experts and activists in Asia and Africa.
