They say, “What gets measured gets done.” What if the way we have been measuring poverty is partly responsible for the results we have today: 40 million poor in the US and 3 billion in the world? Distinguished Visiting Professor Dr. Martin Burt will discuss how the new poverty measurement tool he developed, the Poverty Stoplight, attempts to allow the poor to understand how poverty affects them and how they might address it. The Poverty Stoplight is now being piloted in the US, UK, and other 20 countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
