Join us for the first workshop in the Navigating Microaggressions in Academia series, "Dealing with Backhanded Compliments.”

Might it seem disrespectful to praise a Latina for being articulate?

Can it be offensive to compliment an Asian on their math abilities?

And what if you overhear someone being praised for successfully avoiding a life of crime and drugs?

As part of our series on dealing with the challenges of living and working in a diverse community, we will discuss how even efforts to convey compliments can convey stereotypes and lead to awkward moments.

Navigating Microaggressions:

Grad students in Social Sciences are invited to a series of workshops discussing racial tensions in academia. Students can give and receive support, and share strategies for navigating interactions at every level.
