In his talk on the nature of logic, Jean-Yves Beziau will emphasize the distinction between logic as reasoning and logic as a theory of reasoning. He will discuss the evolution of logic, its birth in ancient Greece, the difference between traditional logic and modern logic, and will examine the relations of logic with other fields: semiotics, mathematics, psychology, cognition, critical thinking, etc. And finally, will give a general picture of the many different systems of logic, what are their value and importance and what we can expect in the future.
