What has been called “the Great Aid Debate,” -whether assistance to needy populations around the world results in improvements in social welfare or worsening economic conditions- remains too superficial among the public, and fragmented scholars. Who Cares? aims to move the debate forward through new interdisciplinary synergies at UCI and beyond.

Medical anthropologist and physician Paul Farmer has dedicated his life to improving health care for the world’s poorest people. He is a founding director and the Chief Strategist of Partners In Health (PIH), an international non-profit organization that provides health care services and undertakes research and advocacy activities on behalf of those who are sick and living in poverty.
