Tuesday, February 25, 2014
1:00-3:00 p.m.
Humanities Gateway, Room 1030

In his new book, US Immigration Reform and Its Global Impact, Camayd-Freixas provides an insider's view of US immigration enforcement and detention, unraveling the post-9/11 national security agenda that led to the devastating Postville Raid of 2008 and its global ramifications. The incisive historical analysis unveils the hidden ideologies within immigration policy—uncovering forms of labor, demographic, and electoral control. Rich eyewitness accounts and voices from across the political spectrum paint a vivid picture of labor migration in the era of globalization. Camayd-Freixas employs theories of human mobility in terms of migration spheres to convey practical and historical lessons, illuminating a much-needed roadmap for enlightened immigration reform.
