The Center for Ethnography presents

"Fieldwork After Ethnos"
with Tobias Rees, McGill University; Stephen J. Collier, New School University; and Christopher Ketly, UCLA

Friday, December 6, 2013
9:30 a.m.
Social & Behavioral Sciences Gateway, Room 3323

A one day conference. As posed by Tobias Rees, what actual forms does fieldwork assume when researchers, inspired by classic traditions of ethnography, are yet no longer interested primarily in ethnoi, territorially imagined societies and their cultures, but in 'events', 'emergent forms of life', 'assemblages'? What becomes of fieldwork as method when it is conceived as the study of particular subjects and groups as cultures but then evolves in inquiries that escape the classic conceptions of doing ethnography, and are left with formulations of questions to which ethnography does not provide answers?
