with Elizabeth Lira, Professor of Psychology and Ethics, Universidad Alberto Hurtado,

State University
Thursday, November 7, 2013
5:00-6:20 p.m.
Social Science Plaza A, Room 1100
Professors Loveman and Lira will discuss the historical patterns of political conflict and reconciliation in Chile, focusing on policies regarding massive human rights violations by the military government (1973-1990) in the transition from dictatorship to elected civilian governments after 1990. Special attention will be given to the tension between a history of political amnesties and impunity for perpetrators of human rights violations and demands for truth, reparation for the victims, and justice (prosecution and punishment) of those responsible for murder and torture.
