Barbara Demick is the Los Angeles Times¹ Beijing bureau chief and the author of Logavina Street: Life and Death in a Sarajevo Neighborhood. Her most recent book, Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea, won the BBC's Samuel Johnson Award for the year's best work in nonfiction for 2010. Demick will join in conversation with Kavita Philip, history associate professor. The talk will be moderated by Erika Hayasaki, literary journalism assistant professor, with introductory remarks from Jeffrey Wasserstrom, history professor and department chair.
