Imam Jihad Turk, director of Religious Affairs at the Islamic Center of Southern California (ICSC), and interim dean of Bayan Claremont, an Islamic Graduate School, has dedicated himself to improving the relations between the Muslim community and other faith traditions in the United States.  He is currently on staff as adjunct faculty at UCLA, Southwestern Law School, and the Claremont School of Theology where he teaches courses on Islam and Arabic.  He also serves as a member of the UC system-wide Advisory Council on Campus Climate, Culture and Inclusion.

In addition to serving the religious needs of his community, Imam Turk focuses much of his attention on interfaith work.  He is currently serving as president of the Wilshire Center Interfaith Council, which sponsors an annual interfaith trip to the Holy Land and sits on the board of a Muslim-Jewish peace education organization, reGeneration.  Imam Turk is also the co-chair of the Christian-Muslim Consultative Group, a group comprised of Christian and Muslim organizations intent on understanding and working together on common goals.  He has received awards for his religious leadership by Congresswoman Jane Harman (LA), the Valley Interfaith Council, and the South Coast Interfaith Council.

The event is part of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity’s Campus Conversations Series which aims to provide the campus community with opportunities to engage in dialogues about contemporary topics related to equal opportunity and diversity.
