Judy Tzu-Chun Wu, professor of history and Asian American studies and Long Institute core faculty member, discusses “Seeing Each Other,” a UCI-Fudan student exchange centered on photography and storytelling. The initiative connects students through their experiences of everyday life, creating opportunities to encounter one another beyond political narratives. For Wu, who helped organize and direct the exchange, those human connections are at the heart of the project. “Really trying to emphasize that we are human on both sides of that iron curtain and that that is a way to really understand each other and develop a sense of sympathy and empathy,” Wu told Spectrum News 1.
