The Producer Price Index, which tracks inflation before it hits consumers, increased 1.4% in April. That was its biggest monthly jump in four years. The PPI tells economists that rising costs are here to stay, according to Eric Swanson, a professor at UC Irvine. β€œIt tells you that there's a lot of price pressure coming from gas costs, transportation costs, and we're going to see that continue to pass through to consumer prices for the next couple of months,” Swanson said.
