Millions turn to AI chatbots for mental health support

Stephen Schueller and Nicholas Jacobson, both of whom spoke at the FDA advisory committee meeting, also noted that chatbots are a far cry from the products the agency has traditionally regulated. “We’ve seen companies try to do right in the regulatory pathway, and they couldn’t, because the regulatory pathway isn’t sized right for them,” said Schueller, a professor of psychological science and informatics at the University of California, Irvine.
