Large pay gains outpace state minimum-wage boosts for many workers

More than half the states in the U.S. are set to lift their minimum wages in the coming year, but the effects could be muted because many low-income workers already earn more than mandated due to strong labor demand. … “I don’t want to say the minimum wage has become irrelevant, but it has certainly become less relevant,” said David Neumark, a [Distinguished] Professor at University of California, Irvine.
