Fatphobia, from the ballerina in the Disney short to its origins

Disney releases the first short film featuring a fat dancer as the protagonist, and comments abound on social media about how an unhealthy body type is being promoted. But is it really so? We asked Sabrina Strings, a sociology professor at the University of California at Irvine. “Whenever we think that we can understand whether or not an individual is unhealthy simply by looking at them, we are trafficking in eugenics,” Strings explains.
