Undergraduate Student Affairs team surrounds Leinen award winner Estela Magana (holding flowers).

UCI social sciences staff gathered earlier this month for a day-long retreat and welcome back celebration to kick off the 2022-23 academic year. Career milestones - 5, 15 and 35 years of service – within the University of California system were celebrated by five social sciences Anteaters and met with applause from the tightknit social sciences community gathered in Social & Behavioral Sciences Gateway. Estela Magaña, social sciences undergraduate academic advisor, was recognized as the 2022 recipient of the David L. Leinen Outstanding Staff Award. The honor annually recognizes social sciences staff for fostering excellence, innovation, and community within the school and across campus.

“The best part about being back in person to recognize our staff achievements was the palpable energy and enthusiasm, proving yet again that the staff are the backbone -- and the spirit -- of our operation,” says Bill Maurer, UCI social sciences dean. “Thank you to each and every one of you. Zot zot zot!”

Career milestone recognitions included:

5 years
Melissa Churlonis

15 years
Heather Ashbach
Liz Codispoti
Jonathan Leung-Nilsson

25 years
Dale Lee

Congrats to Estela, those recognized for UC milestones, and to all who help make UCI social sciences THE best school on campus!
