Jim Weatherall, a logic and philosophy professor at UC Irvine said he and colleague [UCI Professor] Cailin O’Connor have found that a belief in misinformation isn’t always linked to intelligence or education about a particular topic. Instead, he said, people … tend to believe demonstrably false information if it is coming from people they trust who also are members of their shared social network.
