Cailin O'Connor, a professor at the University of California, Irvine and co-author of The Misinformation Age: How False Beliefs Spread, … said "There are a lot of false beliefs that, because they're so widespread, people believe them, even people who are experts, like scientists or journalists," O'Connor says. "And because they've heard it from so many sources, it starts to seem like just common knowledge and not the kind of thing that you actually need to fact check."
