Louis DeSipio, a professor of political science at UC Irvine, said that for months,
the Trump administration has pushed a false narrative of an invasion at the border
and Sunday’s skirmish will only be used to his advantage. “I think the optics here
will play into President Trump’s rhetoric,” DeSipio said. “President Trump and Homeland
Security will use it as an example or evidence to justify sending troops to the Mexican
border. It will be used as justification for that and further evidence by President
Trump of the lawlessness of it.”
